HISTORY NIRALI KITABEN was founded in 1972 as an independent publishing section of the Adult Basic Education Society, which was registered with the Government. The publishing programme and operations grew to the extent that in October 1994 a separate NIRALI KITABEN TRUSTwas formed and registered. The non-sectarian nature of the Trust allows funding from any source and service for all new readers in Pakistan. NIRALI KITABEN was the first private publishing organisation in Pakistan committed to providing books and teaching aids for all organisations to use in their programmes of adult basic education. Responding to the expressed self-felt needs of new readers, NIRALI KITABEN has become the largest publisher in Pakistan of health education materials and recipe books.TARGET AUDIENCE The target audience for NIRALI KITABEN has been female adults, both illiterate and neo-literate, though the male segment of the population has never been ignored. OUR GREAT ACHIEVEMENT NAYA DIN literacy primer has become so popular that versions on health and environment have been published, along with follow-up reading materials. Audio and video cassettes, flipcharts, and content cards are produced by PAVE, a tradename (Programmes Audio-video Education), to supplement the books for a complete communication kit. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS NIRALI KITABEN is prepared to establish a programme relationship with all those government departments, private institutions, and international organisations serving the communities in Pakistan that need literature and resource materials for functional and basic education.
